Tangy BBQ Sauce

Tangy BBQ Sauce

Inspired By...

As we were developing our BBQ sauce, making a healthy, glossy, well-balanced sauce was our top priority. But what has truly inspired us is the opportunity to shine a light on the history of BBQ in America. Enslaved people developed and regionalized BBQ cooking methods and sauces, and have sadly been largely erased from America’s culinary history. While BBQ has become a staple of American independence celebrations, we believe that it’s important to recognize and honor the people who created it and were denied that very freedom for hundreds of years.

Our Version...

Tamarind is the star of our recipe. Native to Africa, the tamarind tree produces a fruit that is a perfect balance of sweet and tangy. You’ll find it in a lot of sweet/sour sauces across the globe. We also wanted to use apple cider vinegar for its nutritional benefits and taste. Most packaged BBQ sauce is LOADED with sugar and salt, so we chose to sweeten ours with dates and plums and use tamari (gluten-free soy sauce) for a salty kick.

How to Use It...

Our Tangy BBQ Sauce goes great with classics like ribs and wings, but we also love it stirred into rice and beans, mixed with a little mayo to make a slaw or as a marinade for a slow roasted salmon.

Try our BBQ Flank Steak with Corn Salsa, or Tangy BBQ Tofu.
