Frequently Asked Questions

What are Haven's Kitchen sauces?

Our sauces are the answer to years of our cooking school students asking why they couldn’t buy the delicious drizzles and dressings they were learning to make it class. Why wasn’t there fresh sauce at the grocery store? Why hadn’t they heard of these delicious sauces from around the globe? Why did store-bought sauce have so much added sugar and salt? Those questions inspired us to make our own product line, and a few years later our pouches can be found in over 2000 stores across the US.

Where is Haven's Kitchen based?

NYC is our home. And although we no longer operate a cafe and cooking school, NYC will always be our stomping ground.

Where do you make your sauces?

We make and package our sauces in Rochester, NY.

How should I store sauces?

Sauces should always be refrigerated and consumed by best buy date.

Why does my pouch of Herby Chimichurri look cloudy?

We use olive oil, which can get cloudy in cool temperatures. Let it sit out of the fridge for a few minutes before using, then shake and squeeze.

Why does my sauce look separated?

Our sauces are free of chemical preservatives.... (change "from" to "of" per my high school grammar teacher)

What does “cold processed” mean?

Part of the reason our sauces tastes so different from shelf-stable sauces is because we use pressure (HPP) to kill bacteria and stop oxidation, rather than excessive heat or chemical preservatives.

What does “globally-inspired” mean?

Part of our mission includes expanding home cooks’ horizons and helping them familiarize with flavors and ingredients from around the world. While we try to stay true to the sauce you would eat in its region of origin, we are aware that making sauce on a large scale (however small-batch) makes it nearly impossible to replicate a homemade recipe. So our flavors come from around the world, but we recognize that our sauces are interpretations.

Are your pouches recyclable?

Yes! Our pouches are 100% recyclable through our partnership with Terracycle. Even better news, pouches are a more sustainable packaging option than glass, releasing significantly fewer carbon emissions in production and transportation.

Why aren't your sauces organic?

Using organic ingredients would increase the price of sauce to a range the average consumer could not afford. We decided to prioritize gluten-free, Non-GMO, Kosher, and Vegan sauces. Allowing us to offer healthy, nutritious sauces at a fair price.

Do your sauces contain GMOs?

We are committed to only non-GMO ingredients. All of our sauces are Non-GMO Project verified.

Are Haven's Kitchen sauces vegan?

Yes!

Are Haven's Kitchen sauces gluten-free?

Yes! However, we make them in a facility that also produces products with gluten.

Do your sauces contain soy?

While most of our sauces are free of soy products, the GIngery Miso and Nutty Lemongrass contain Non-GMO soy.

Are your sauces kosher?

All of our sauces are certified parve kosher.

Where can I find Haven's Kitchen sauces?

Can I visit the cooking school in NYC?

We unfortunately closed up shop permanently in July 2020. But check out our Instagram and Pinterest feeds for instructional videos and inspirational recipes from the comfort of your home.

Will you continue to offer virtual cooking classes?

Not at this time. Interested in a private cooking class? Email us at info@havenskitchen.com, and we'll be happy to discuss options.
